About

I was born in Wisconsin, but we moved south when I was four, eventually settling in Winston-Salem, NC. I think this makes me southern, but my wife disagrees.

I have been married to my wife, Ellen, since 1992. She is an artist and graphic designer, and makes artists' books and letterpress-printed ephemera under the imprint Crooked Letter Press. We have one son, Gus, percussionist and composer.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, birdwatching, yoga, cooking, and spending time with my family. I took up the guitar at age 44 and I'm making progress. I am a lifelong baseball fan, and in the summer you can find me cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. I am a coffee snob, and you can often find me brewing a cup in my Chemex manual drip coffee maker.
